So I caved in and started crocheting a shawl based on the Bruinen pattern, which will be called 'Consumed King's Garden' on Ravelry (the link between the two being, of course, Mine Once More, which exists largely thanks to the CKG), using Louisa Harding's Amitola in shade Dawn (i.e ice blue+pale red+very dark red/almost black), even though I only have three balls and therefore the shawl probably won't be very big.
That was only the beginning.
Because of course then I started imagining Maglor in the Grand Archives, finding out that Elrond had amassed more books than he imagined and starting to do research together with the few elves remaining in Rivendell, because you have to do something to while away your eternal time and say fuck you to any long defeat. He studies crystals, and souls, and eventually achieves "enlightenment", and finds "the quintessence of sorcery in the facets of a certain crystal" (I'm not sure what I wrote about the Silmaril in Mine Once More, but Maglor obviously has it).
Maglor being Maglor, the very books and scrolls in the archive develop a malignant will towards anyone who approaches them without the right precautions, over time, as the world decays (more curse for everybody!), whereas Maglor himself turns the Silmaril into a light-producing parasitic creature of sorts, which he can wear on his head to be even more enlightened (and make other people mad if he wants, especially humans).
At some point he also kidnaps one of Aragorn & Arwen's daughters and turns her into a living failure and/or tries to make his own dragon babies with her. (Aragorn & Arwen's daughters are more Beren/Doriath/Galadriel than they are Elrond, plus it's in the name of --research).
Gildor is like 'what the fuck dood' at first, and then 'whatever man'.
All of this to Pontiff Sulyvahn's theme which is majestic (even though I don't like Pontiff). And there you have it, Pontiff Canafinwë, researching stuff to destroy your life from the Fourth Age.
That was only the beginning.
